Nineteenth-century green half calf; extremities worn.

Catalogue Note
First edition in English of Petrarch's De remediis utriusque fortunae and first edition of Gascoigne's translation of Innocent III, De contemptu mundi. In the dedication of the latter book, Gascoigne reproaches himself for having wasted his time in writing frivolous works, and states that he is now spending his time on matters both serious and moral.
The Gascoigne is of extraordinary rarity in the trade, there being no copy offered at auction in over fifty years.
