Catalogue Note
First edition, first issue, reading "hee should" (leaf B4, line 31). A contribution to the pamphlet war known as the Marprelate Controversy between an anonymous Puritan and the defenders of the established church. Authorship is sometimes attributed to Thomas Nashe. There are two settings of large portions of this tract occurring in three combinations, designated by McKerrow as A, B and C. The present copy is McKerrow's combination C with the reading "hee should" on line 31 of B4 recto. Jackson judged this combination to be the first in order of production.
