Engraved frontispiece portrait of Hobbes; lacking first two blanks, separate title-page for third work but register and pagination are continuous. Contemporary speckled calf, spine gilt in six compartments, red morocco lettering piece, plain endpapers, marbled edges; extremities rubbed.

Presentation copy by the editor/contributor, Richard Blackbourne. This work contains three lives of Hobbes, all in Latin: Tho. Hobbes Malmesburiensis vita, written in prose by Hobbes himself (or possibly by T. Rymer at Hobbes's dictation); Vitæ Hobbianæ auctarium, also in prose by Dr. Richard Blackbourne based on the English notes of his friend John Aubrey, and Tho. Hobbes Malmesburiensis vita carmine expressa, an autobiography written in elegiac couplets when Hobbes was a spry eighty-four years old. The first and third works were originally published in 1679.
