Engraved title-page, title-page with the spelling "Civil" and an upside triangle of twenty-five ornaments grouped in five rows between rules after the author's name and before the imprint, folding table after A4, side-notes with paragraph indentations through quire U (flush with text in subsequent quires); the engraved title much faded with long marginal tear along bottom margin neatly repaired, marginal browning, foxing and occasional dampstaining, some scattered spotting, quires I and N and leaf 2X1 browned, minor loss to outer margin F4, lower right corner of 3C3 clipped. Contemporary Cambridge-style calf tooled in blind, the spine in six compartments with raised bands, red morocco lettering piece, engraved portrait of Hobbes pasted to front free endpaper; small losses to spine ends, joints cracked near spine ends.
