Woodcut printer's device on title, two other letterpress title, (leaf Oo2, Eee2) with woodcut headpiece and printer's device on one, a portrait of Queen Elizabeth on the other, woodcut headpieces and decorative initials, includes the dedication to Notingham in the second part, and the dedication to Lady Elizabeth Clere in the third; title soiled and fore-edge a bit frayed along with a few leaves following, some small marginal dampstains and soiling throughout. Contemporary blind-ruled calf, gilt-stamped central lozenge, repeated floral stamp in each compartment of spine, mottled edges; joints worn with cracks starting, a few wormholes, corners worn and mended.

Catalogue Note
First complete edition. An influential source-book for Elizabethan dramatists, this edition collects all three earlier parts of Mirrour for Magistrates and adds A Winter Nights Vision and Englands Eliza, written by Richard Niccols. "Shakespeare was familiar with it and used the story of Queen Cordelia for some points in 'King Lear.' This collection also contains the story of Locrine, which was used in the anonymous play of that name wrongly attributed to Shakespeare in the Third Folio" (Bartlett 277).
