Catalogue Note
First edition. Heylyn, chaplain-ordinary to Charles I, wrote this treatise to present to the King who was enthusiastic about the Order of the Garter and its patron Saint George, and he appends lists of those appointed to the Order from its founding in 1350 (as stated here) to the present day. This copy has the name of James, third Marquess of Hamilton, first Duke of Hamilton, and Earl of Cambridge (1606-1649) added in manuscript to the last two lists of members; he was elected knight of the Garter in October 1630 just as this work was being registered with the Stationers' Company in November.
