 Folio (11 1/4 X 7 in.; 286 x 178 mm). Printer's woodcut device on title-page, title within double rules, variant with additional "I" hand-stamped in the date, another setting of the title-page ( 3), also with additional "I," 2r setting with "emittit" as the catchword rather than "Translatio," text within rules with a blank marginal column for side-notes, woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces composed of printer's ornaments; mild dampstaining within inner margin affecting quires 3A–3D and 3P–3Q, errata leaf (3R4v). Contemporary blind-tooled calf, plain endpapers, edges sprinkled red; some craquelure and a few old scratches on boards, two minor losses on upper cover, a few repairs, joints a bit dry and cracking at spine ends.

Catalogue Note

Rare first edition,  with the date altered to 1624 on both title-pages. This copy first belonged to Lord Chief Justice Sir Matthew Hale, and bears his signature on the front free endpaper and is dated 1663.
