Catalogue Note

First edition, one of only a few known copies, of which many are imperfect.

The present copy was made complete by W.H. Miller with the music leaves extracted from the Brindley copy (now at the British Library). He also extra-illustrated this copy with the portrait of Queen Anne, taking that from the aforementioned copy as well. The portrait of the author in ruff and doublet on the engraved title is apparently one of the rarest of English literary portraits.

Three of the works have separate titles with a variation of the imprint from the main title, but work is paged continuously.

ESTC lists less than a dozen copies, of which the British Library's copy is incomplete, that at the Bodleian has a facsimile title as does the former  Crawford Lefferts copy, while the copy originally in the Hoe sale lacks the music.
