First edition, of four issued by 1618, of the earliest volume of the genre of maternal advice books that became popular in the early modern England. Grymeston’s work—largely inspired, adapted, and even extracted from Richard Verstegan’s Odes (1601; STC 21359), Robert Allott’s Englands Parnassus (1600; STC 378), and Robert Southwell’s Saint Peters Complaint (1595; STC 22955.7)—was directed at her son Bernye, the only one of her nine children to survive infancy.
