Folio (11 5/8 x 8 in.; 295 x 202 mm). Woodcut initials, woodcut and type-ornament head- and tailpieces, with initial blank π1 and terminal blank 2R6; clean paper flaw on G2, a very few scattered stains, text block a bit "wrinkled." Contemporary black morocco, covers paneled in gilt with central laurel-wreath cartouche and fleuron-tool cornerpieces, smooth spine gilt in nine compartments, plain endpapers, gilt edges; extremities rubbed, corners bumped, gouge to fore-edge panel of rear cover.

Catalogue Note
First edition, the rare large-paper issue. The large-paper copies were printed on a fine Italian stock with watermark of a spread-winged bird in a circle. All copies have quires a-c cancelled; Greg has shown that they must originally have contained Greville's "Treatise on Religion," the cancellation occurring between the licensing of the book, 17 October 1632, and its entry in the Stationers Register, 10 November 1632. The works listed on the title-page verso are "A Treatise of Humane Learning," "An Inquisition upon Fame and Honour," "A Treatie of Warres," The Tragedie of Alaham, The Tragedie of Mustapha, "Caelica," "A Letter to an Honorable Lady," and "A Letter of Travell." Paste-on cancels cover the privileges for Alaham and Mustapha printed on N4r and Z4v respectively.
A very fresh copy, presumably in a presentation binding, and with the title-page signature of Sir Kenelm Digby ("Ken: Digbii").
