Title-page printed in red and black, engraved frontispiece portrait, 14 plates (12 double-page, one folding, 2 single-page), 30 text engravings (one one-half page, the remaining full page), all by Wencelaus Hollar, separate title-pages for A View of the Monuments and the Appendix, errata on 3Z3; a few text leaves and plates torn, folding plate repaired, some leaves misbound at the end. Contemporary calf paneled gilt, the spine in seven compartments gilt, plain endpapers and edges; neatly rebacked with original backstrip preserved, several old scrapes and scratches to boards, extremities rubbed.

First edition, Sir Christopher Wren's copy, with his signature on the title-page. Above the signature and twice on the front pastedown appear the initials W.H., probably those of Wren's uncle, William Holder, the mathematician, who contributed to Wren's education and probably gave or left him this book. "The work is valued on account of the descriptions and engravings which it contains of St. Pauls before it was destroyed by the Great Fire" (Pforzheimer).
