Catalogue Note
First edition, first issue of the third and scarcest volume of Donne's Sermons: according to the preface by John Donne the Younger, "The Impression consists onely of Five hundred, which will somewhat advance the Price; but the buyer being at liberty, he can receive no prejudice." The reader may have received prejudice, however, from the fact that the volume actually contains just twenty-three sermons, the ninth being entirely omitted while the sixteenth and seventeenth are duplicates of the fifth and third.
