Two volumes bound in one, 12mo (5 3/4 x 3 1/4 in.; 145 x 84 mm). Paradoxes: title within type-ornament border, woodcut initials, type-ornament head- and tailpieces, with blanks L3–4; small rust-hole to C10 touching a few letters. Essayes: title within type-ornament border, type-ornament initial-frames and head- and tailpieces, with initial blank, 8-page Humphrey Moseley catalogue bound at end; E1 with paper flaw(?) at fore-edge corner costing a few words. Contemporary calf, covers and spine ruled in blind, early paper label on spine, plain endpapers, red-sprinkled edges; lightest fading to spine.

Third edition, second issue, and first edition, respectively. The dedication to Francis Lord Newport in Paradoxes has been edited from the first issue; the dedication to Sir Henry Vane in Essayes (A3–7) is cancelled, as usual. A superb copy.
