Catalogue Note

Second edition. The binding "is similar to ones in the travelling libraries of Sir Francis Bacon (Toledo Museum of Art), Lord Egerton (Huntington Library), Sir Julius Caesar (British Museum), and one made for a member of the Madden family (Brotherton Library, Leeds). The books, each with a gilt angel stamped on the sides, as in the present example, were divided into classes such as Poetry, History, etc., identifiable by the color of the ties" (Grolier).
