Catalogue Note
First edition in English, one of about ten copies recorded; two Latin editions appeared earlier the same year. Ignatius his Conclave is “a vigorous, amusing, and sometimes scurrilous satire … regarded [by Donne himself] as too undignified a production to be publically acknowledged, though his name appeared on the title-pages of the English editions published after his death” (Keynes, pp. 13–14).
