Catalogue Note
A sparkling copy of the second edition of Bacon’s Essayes, the rarest of the sixteenth-century editions. The present copy is the only one to appear at auction since the Anbury Hall copy (lacking two leaves) was sold in our London rooms in 1958. STC records just three copies: the Bodleian Library, Oxford; Trinity College, Cambridge; and the imperfect Anbury Hall copy.
