First collected edition, comprising a reissue of the sheets from the first issue of The First Fowre Bookes of the Civile Warres (1595), here containing the second ("fyft") setting of the fifth book, together with four other works by Daniel. Copies preserved in contemporary vellum are extremely rare; apart from the present copy, Jackson could trace only the Pforzheimer copy now at the University of Texas.

This copy has both the uncancelled 1595 title-leaf from the first issue of The First Fowre Bookes of the Civile Warres preceded by its conjugate blank (STC 6244, quire [A]²), and also the 1599 title-leaf (STC 6261) which is here left uncancelled and remains bound as leaf ²F4, as it was imposed. The title- and dedication-leaves for the third part, A Letter from Octavia to Marcus Antonius, are likewise uncancelled and remain bound in quire ³D, as they were imposed. In the Pforzheimer copy, the title for the Letter from Octavia has its imprint in the same setting as the title for the second part, Musophilus; however, in the present copy the two imprints are different settings, and the third part here has the imprint: AT LONDON | Printed by P. Short for Simon | Waterson. 1599.

Shakespeare drew on the Civile Warres "for aspects of Richard II within weeks of the poem going on sale (probably November 1595)" (ONDB).
