First edition. A rare survival of the "pure" Revenge Play, the genre to which Hamlet belongs. It has been carefully studied by scholars of Elizabethan drama (e.g., Fredson Bowers) and its echoes of Kyd and of the imaginary ur-Hamlet have long intrigued readers.
