Seven parts in one volume, folio ( 10 5/8 x 6 3/4 in.; 270 x 172 mm). Title within double-ruled border, imprimatur (A1v) dated "March the 14th 1645" and signed "Iohn Dovvname," and text within ruled border with blank marginal column for side-notes, headpieces composed of printer's ornaments, woodcut initials; paper defects on imprimatur leaf and 2L3, light browning in quire O, scattered stains in quire R, oxidized hole on 2S4 costing two words. Contemporary calf, triple-filleted in blind, the spine in seven compartments with raised bands, edges stained red; marginal browning from turn-ins to endpapers, old scrapes to boards, some restoration to spine.

First edition. "Of the alternative imprints it seems that [this] is likely to be the earliest. The rest of the title-page was printed from the same setting of type in each, so that the change was probably made while the book was in the press. There is no other alteration" (Keynes).
