2 volumes, 8vo (6 5/8 x 4 5/8 in.; 168 x 115 mm). Engraved frontispiece portraits; light dampstaining causing red doublures to bleed onto last few leaves of first volume and first few leaves of second volumes. Light brown morocco by Morrell (for Scribner's), covers gilt to an art nouveau design with ivory morocco onlay lily cornerpieces, spines gilt in six compartments, red morocco doublures and linings, top edges gilt; corners just bumped. Brown cloth slipcase, chemise.

Catalogue Note

One of three copies on vellum (of a whole edition of 383). The text was revised and edited by James Russell Lowell and Charles Eliot Norton. Laid in is a typed letter signed by Norton, 2 May 1905, to Mark H. Liddell, discussing the edition and the proper pronunciation of Donne's name.
