Catalogue Note

A high-spirited set of paintings depicting many hundreds of figures engaged in various activities, including hunting for elephants. The latter are mainly depicted as having black bodies with face, trunk and ears in white with black dots. A few elephants are pink.

Other animals include tigers, a stag, a doe, and rabbits. There are numerous mounted horsemen in splendid raiment, many engaged in the ancient game of polo. Carriages of different types carrying high ranking occupants are also present. A cock fight is depicted with other cocks held in readiness.

Acrobats engaged in national sports are also presented. A number of boats including a large craft in the shape of a dragon carrying exalted passengers form part of this fascinating panorama. All throughout great deference is paid to rank, and the costumes are of the greatest interest in that there are so many different types delineated.
