Condition
This attractive chest of drawers would almost certainly have had a painted surface. The stripped surface has had much wear, with numerous old marks and scratches. This is consistent with the soft nature of pine wood and heavy domestic use. The front of the top, a horizontal section running from side to side, has at one time been detached and then re-attached.
The attractive metalwork is good but all replaced and there is evidence of former lock plates. The lower drawer with filler and repair to this site. The drawers are a little sticky. The feet are worn and have had exposure to water and worm as there is fragmenting and chipping to these indicative of this. The piece has had some remedial treatment over the years. Despite this wear consistent with age, use and stripping this piece exudes great charm.
