each brown-spotted cow standing four-square on a puce-edged canted rectangular base.

Condition

One cow has its right ear restored back on. The other has both horns restored back on and extensive restoration to both ears. Both have minor frits to the edges of the bases. Otherwise in good condition.

Two similar figures of cows are illustrated in Michael Cohen and William Motley, Mandarin and Menagerie, Chinese and Japanese Export Ceramic Figures, p.180-181, no. 12.3, where the authors cite a Dutch East Company order of 1747 for 120 pairs of cows.
