A group of Derby yellow-ground wares circa 1800

comprising: an oval teapot and cover, finely painted on one side with a scene of soldiers at a coaching inn and on the other with a military encampment; a small yellow-ground mug and a cylindrical sugar box painted with Derbyshire scenes; and a pair of yellow-ground saucers with views of Clapham Common and Putney Common, the teapot with puce painted crowned crossed batons and D, pattern number 455; others with blue painted crossed batons and D and titles. Together with two English porcelain yellow-ground saucers painted with landscape panels. 8 pieces.

Teapot and cover: there is an extended crack that runs diagonally from the shoulder into the reserved panel where it forks, continuing to run horizontally in one direction to a point above the base of the spout and downwards in the other direction into the base, where it forks again, running to the opposite side in one direction and curving and running the length of the base to below the spout. There is another short haircrack running from the rim across the top of the flat shoulder. Sugar box: Lacking cover; minor 1/4-in. chip to the foot; some wear to the gilding and minor scratching to the yellow ground. Saucers: some rubbing to the gilding and occasional minor wear to the yellow ground. Mug: generally good condition
