Description

comprising: an English porcelain dove tureen and a cover, probably Chelsea; a Bow porcelain quail tureen and cover and a Staffordshire pearlware dove tureen and cover. 6 pieces.

Condition

All with some minor and occasional chips or restorations to the shrubbery on the nests. The one on the front in the catalogue illustration: The cover: the bird's head has been broken at its forehead issuing short cracks that run around the bird's beak; the break and the cracks have been restored; the restoration is old and has partially flaked. There are several very small flat chips to the flange of the cover. The tureen has three small chips to the rim edge and a short fine haircrack running down the rim and curving back up. The one on the right back in the catalogue illustration: The reddish brown glaze on the cover is slightly misfired giving a gritty feel and a matte appearance. The tureen has been broken in half and restored back; the restoration is old and yellow. There is an approximate 2 1/2-inch haircrack running across the base. The tureen on the left back in the catalogue illustration: The cover: the bird's beak is restored. The tureen: has been possibly broken into two and well restored back. The tureen has four small restored rim chips.
