comprising: a Glienitz butter tub in the form of a recumbent deer and a Dorotheenthal butter tub in the form of a recumbent sheep, the first with G.F. mark in blue, the second with plus mark in blue.

Catalogue Note

A Dorotheenthal faïence sheep box and cover similarly modelled to the present example and painted around the neck and tail with flowers is illustrated by Eduard Fuchs and Paul Heiland in Die Deutsche Fayence-Kultur, p. 160, cat no. 101 b, where the authors date it to circa 1755.
