Condition
Both with some very minor and very occasional glaze abrasions or chips to the edges.
The manganese-decorated cow-form box and cover: Both horns of the cow on the cover are restored with made-up material. The tip of one ear is restored. The right front tucked-in leg is restored. Otherwise in good condition.
The blue-decorated cow-form box and cover: Both ears and horns on the cover are restored and there is overspray covering the majority of the cover, possibly covering very small chips to the edges. There is a small flat chip to the rimedge. The container is in generally good condition.

A small tureen and cover similarly modelled and painted, and attributed as 'perhaps Brunswick', was sold at Sotheby's Florence, April 9, 1974, lot 43. Another similar butter dish and cover, attributed to Erfurt, was sold at Christie's East New York, November 16, 1993, lot 58.
