Catalogue Note

The present cabinet's decoration relates to a small group of chinoiserie decorated ribalte con alzata almost certainly executed in the same Venetian workshop in the first half of the eighteenth century. A cabinet signed Vizzo and offered from The Estate of the late Giuseppe Rossi, Sotheby's London, March 10, 1999, lot 83 is most similar to the present example in its overall shape, the rendering of the figures and the curious fact that no scenes repeat. For another comparable probably from the same workshop see G. Morazzoni, Il Mobile Veneziano del '700, vol. II, Milan, 1958, pl. CDVIII.
