  • 'Redwoods, Bull Creek Flat, Northern California'

  • Gelatin silver print
  • 15 1/2 x 19 inches
mounted, signed in pencil on the mount, the photographer's Carmel studio stamp (BMFA 11), with title and date in ink, on the reverse, circa 1960, printed between 1973 and 1977 (400 Photographs, p. 399)

Condition

In raking light, a one-and-a-half inch linear impression that does not appear to break the emulsion is visible in the upper right quadrant. There are very small losses of emulsion and chipping at the print's edges, and the corners are bumped. Also in raking light, scattered tiny deposits of original retouching are visible. The mount is soiled and darkened along the edges. The reverse is heavily soiled, age-darkened, and foxed. There are also 4 tape remnants and abrasions on the reverse. Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. Our dating of this print is based upon the authors' assessment of the use dates of stamp 11 on the reverse of the mount: 1973 through 1977.
