Description
- Consuelo Kanaga
- Black Child and Apple Blossom, Tennessee
- Gelatin silver print
the photographer's 'Photograph by Consuelo Kanaga' stamp and annotation in pencil on the reverse, framed, 1948, probably printed in the late 1950s or early 1960s (Kanaga, pl. 87)
Condition
This pleasingly warm-toned print, with rich creamy highlights, is in generally excellent condition. It is on double-weight paper with a subtle semi-glossy surface. Fine white scratches visible upon close examination to the right of the sitter are in the negative and are not flaws in the present print. A few tiny deposits of retouching are visible overall in raking light.
The print is trimmed to the image. There is occasional edge chipping and the corners are worn. A few short horizontal stress creases are visible along the lower left edge. A 1/4-inch linear crease in the upper right corner appears to break the emulsion, but is only visible upon very close examination.
On the reverse are beige-colored droplets and soiling of indeterminate nature. Beneath the photographer's credit stamp, '(Tennessee - late 1940s)' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil. The numbers '82.65-88' are also in an unidentified hand in pencil.
When examined under ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce faintly.
