Condition

This early, warm-toned contact print, on semi-glossy, single-weight paper, is in generally excellent condition. The print has been trimmed to the image. Age-appropriate silvering is visible in the darkest areas of the print. The photographer's copyright stamp appears twice on the reverse of the print. The number '5751' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil. When viewed under ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce faintly.

Catalogue Note

This contact print shows a fuller cropping of the iconic Halsman image of Marilyn Monroe that appeared on the cover of LIFE on 7 April 1952.  It was the first of many LIFE covers for Monroe and has become one of the most collectible covers in LIFE’s history.
