the photographer's credit/reproduction rights stamp and various annotations in ink and pencil on the reverse, framed, 1913 (Invention of An Artist, pl. 47, variant)
Condition
This early print, on single-weight, semi-glossy paper, is in generally very good condition. In raking light, tiny deposits of original retouching and isolated small matt-surface areas are visible on the upper figure's left leg. A few very subtle handling creases and impressions from the notations on the reverse of the print are also visible in raking light. Under very close examination, faint red soiling appears in grass at lower left.
The credit/reproduction rights stamp on the reverse reads:
'Photo J.-H. LARTIGUE
MENTION OBLIGATOIRE
DROITS DE REPRODUCTION
RESERVES'
The annotations in ink and pencil, are as follows: 'R,' 'double,' '1913' and '16' (written on a white sticker). 'J. P' appears in blue ink, possibly in the photographer's hand. There is a tape hinge remnant in each of the corners of the print.
