- 'New York: Twelve Photographs'
- gelatin silver prints
(Carmel: self-published, 1951, an edition of 50), a portfolio of 12 photographs, each mounted, signed and dated in pencil on the mount, the portfolio stamp, numbered sequentially in pencil, on the reverse, 1945-47, printed in 1951; together with the printed title, dedication, introduction by Beaumont Newhall, and plate list. Folio, brown leatherette portfolio with flaps
Condition
This portfolio is in generally excellent condition. Faint foxing is visible on some of the mounts, not affecting the prints.
The plates are as follows:
Midtown (1945)
Forty-Seventh Street (1945)
Brownstone in the Fifties (1947)
Church Door, Bowery (1946)
Skylight, Midtown (1947): There are a few faint smudges on the reverse of the mount.
Brooklyn Bridge (1946)
Brooklyn Beachcomber (1945): There is a very faint brown streak on the reverse of the mount.
Church, Brooklyn Outskirts (1945)
Washington Square (1945)
Sutton Place (1945)
End of Forty-Second Street (1945): There are a few faint, stray graphite marks on the reverse of the mount.
Manhattan Courtyard (1945)
The title, dedication, introduction, and plate list are printed on ivory paper that has age-darkened slightly. The title page is unevenly rust-colored to a higher degree, possibly due to contact with the interior of the folio.
The case itself is very slightly soiled. The rear cover has a stray red mark near the spine. The spine is slightly worn on the bottom joint.
