Condition

Overall the condition of the wood is good with wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There are losses to the dog's proper left ear and shoulder, and there are possible minor losses to the faces of the sheep on the Shepherd's right. There is wear with some losses to the polychromy throughout, including minor flaking and craquelure, in particular to the green of the naturalistic background, the left side and windows of the church, and the dog's proper right leg. The polychromy may have been refreshed in a areas, including the Shepherd's face. There is evidence of non-active worming, which is particularly visible at the back, and only very slightly visible in a few areas at the front and sides, including the top of the Shepherd's staff.
