Condition

Overall the condition of the casket is good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few losses to the metal inlay, in particular at the back. Some of the strands of metal are slightly warped. There are also a few losses to the mother-of-pearl inlay, and there are some chips and stable splits to some of the pieces of mother-of-pearl. There is tarnishing and wear, including warping, to the metal mounts and lock. The tortoiseshell is carved in sections, and joints are slightly visible. There are a few minor losses to the tortoishell at the edges and corners of the sections. There is particular wear to the inside of the lid at the edges. The key is missing.
