Description

  • Holy water stoop with Saint John the Baptist
  • coral and silver filigree mounted on gilt copper
  • Italian, Trapani, late 17th/ early 18th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the stoop is very good with dirt and some wear to the surface consistent with age including some dust and tarnishing to the silver. There are a few minor areas of greening and oxidisation to the silver, specifically around the central mandorla. There are a few traces of solder visible at some joints but none of the filigree seems to have been lost or reattached. The raised arm of the saint was reattached at the forearm. The copper is tarnished inside the vessel and on the reverse. There are rings and a string for mounting the piece.
