Description

  • Holy water stoop with the Flight into Egypt
  • marble, with later metal brackets for mounting
  • South Italian, probably Naples, 18th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the marble is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is particular dirt inside the basin, consistent with use. There is slight veining to the marble, consistent with the material, and there are a few naturally occurring inclusions. One of the fruits of the garland on the left side is restored. There are a few chips and abrasions to some of the high points, notably the edges of the leaves. There are two metal mounts on the reverse. The metal brackets are in good condition with some scratches and abrasions around the edges.
