Description
- Six paxes with the Crucifixion and the Pieta
- ivory, one with a turned wood handle, some with modern perspex stands
- Netherlandish and Italian, 15th/ 16th century
one inscribed: I LAMBAR and another: MAURET 1537
Condition
Overall the condition of the ivories is good. There is wear, rubbing and dirt to the surface throughout consistent with age and handling. Several have naturally occurring stable hairline fissures to the surface. Five have a loss to the top edge. All have a slot or holes for the mounting of the handle. The pax with the irregularly cross-hatched background has a chip to the lower edge and a fissure running up the centre from the lower edge.
