Description
- Two pendant crosses
- partially enamelled gold and glass paste
- Spanish or Spanish Colonial, 16th century
together with a Spanish Renaissance style gilt and enamelled pendant, set with an emerald and suspended with a glass paste
Condition
Overall the condition of the pendants is good with dirt and wear to the surfaces consistent with age and the following comments:
Crucifix pendant with green glass: The pearls on the right side are lost, and the glass paste at the top appears to be replaced. There is some wear to the pearls and some minor nicks and scratches to the gold.
Crucifix pendant with red glass: The pearl on the right side is lost. There are losses to the red enamelling to the reverse throughout. The jewel was once adorned with small circles of white enamel around each of the arms of the cross. Several of these have been lost, and there is some wear to the white enamelling to the reverse. In addition, two of the larger circles of white enamel to the reverse are lost. There are a few small fissures to the gold, notably to the reverse, and there are some small nicks and scratches. The left pearl is suspended from a piece of white metal.
Pendant with dolphins: There is wear to the enamelling throughout, in particular to the surfaces of the white enamel, which has abraded in several areas. There are a few small lacunae to the white enamel. There are naturally occurring inclusions to the emerald and some scratches to the surface. There probably would have been an emerald suspended from the bottom of the pendant, this has been replaced by a glass paste. There is some warping to the gold suspension hoop at the top. There are various smaller nicks and scratches to the gold.
The pearls are untested.
