Description
- Two cups and two boxes
- turned ivory
- South German, mid-17th and early 18th century
the round box with floral motifs on the inside
Condition
Overall the condition of the ivories is good, with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is particular surface dirt and darkening in many of the crevices, notably to the snuff box. There is some naturally occurring veining to the ivory, in particular to the lid of the round box. There are two very minor losses to the bottom rims of the two cups. There is some stable hairline splitting to the ivory consistent with the material, notably slightly open splits to the inside bottoms of the two cups, and another split running vertically across one of the cups, which appears to have been stabilised with some fill. There are two very small filled areas to the centre of the lid and the bottom of the round box. There are very small holes to the inside bottoms and the undersides of the two cups, possibly indicating the root canal. The lid of the snuff box sits slightly unevenly.
