Condition

Overall the condition of the trunk is good, with wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. The leather is lighter in colour at the high points, where the surface has rubbed. There is wear to the leather throughout, in particular at the fringe of the lid, where the leather has warped upwards. There are several minor losses and fraying to the edges of the leather. The leather has ripped in a few places, notably to the back of the lid and to one of the corners of the lid at the front. The iron hinge at the front is slightly loose in its setting and does not reach into its lock. There are a few green marks to the left side. There is wear, including chips and minor stable splitting, to the cedar core. There is a loss to the wood to the bottom right corner of the inside of the lid. There is wear to the paper lining, including a few tears. There are four wooden mounts to the underside with which the trunk is held in place on its wood stand. The wood stand is in good condition, with some dirt and wear consistent with age. The stand is composed in sections, and joints are visible. There is minor stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material. There is minor evidence of past worming, including to the legs.
