Description
- Putto blowing a trumpet
- gilt bronze, on a yellow Siena marble, white marble and Swedish porphyry base
- Italian, Venice, 17th century
Condition
Overall the condition of the bronze is good, with wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is some tarnishing to the gilding, in particular at the high points. There appears to be some original patching, including a plug, to the tip of the proper right wing, where the surface is darker in colour. There is a possible loss or casting flaw to the end of the trumpet. There are a few minor lacunae as the result of casting flaws, including to the proper right side of the abdomen and to the proper right arm. There is an area of bronze fill to the base beside the proper right foot. There are some areas of nicks and scratches, notably to the buttocks, the thighs at the back, and the proper left arm.
The marble and porphyry base is in good condition, with minor dirt and several small chips to the edges and corners. The porphyry veneer is not quite even in its setting.
