Condition
Overall the condition of the wood is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is minor non-active worming to the wood, and there are some consequent losses at the bottom at the back. There is a later wood support to the underside. There are losses and flaking to the polychromy throughout, particularly to the red cloak and blue lining. It is possible that the gilding may be partly refreshed. There are a few small losses to the wood, including to the edges of the cloak. There is very minor stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material, including a slight split to the proper left hip. There are a few small holes to the back, a metal hook, and an area patched with canvas.

Catalogue Note
The distinctive facial features and carefully delineated strands of hair exhibited by this Saint Florian find close parallels in the figures of Jörg Lederer's altarpiece for the Church of the Holy Ghost in Latsch, South Tyrol. Remarkably, the figure to the right of the central section wears a hat that appears to be identical to that of the present Saint Florian. Lederer spent most of his career in the Southern Bavarian towns of Füssen and Kaufbeuren, but his success reached as far as Tyrol. Compare Lederer's figure of Saint John the Baptist, and the similarly billowing drapery of his Saint John the Evangelist, both at the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum (Müller, op. cit., nos 255 and 258).
