Description
- Corbel with a monkey
- Balegem limestone, on a modern wood stand
- South Netherlandish, 15th century
Provenance
private collection, Damme
Condition
The corbel is an architectural fragment and therefore roughly hewn at the back. There is dirt to the surface throughout, and some weathering, consistent with placement outdoors. There are several chips, and notably a larger chip above the nose. Otherwise the condition is good, with wear consistent with age.
The modern wood stand is in good condition with minor dirt and wear, including some stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material.
