Anonymous sale, Galerie Charpentier, 8-9 June 1959, to M.E. Rheims (with incorrect measurements of 65 by 81 cm).
Condition
This picture is in good overall condition. The canvas is lined which has only marginally flattened the paint surface. There are no major damages and the canvas is stable. The varnish is discoloured, and there are some scattered old discoloured retouchings visible to the naked eye.
Inspection under ultra violet light reveal two campaigns of retouchings, the older are focused mainly in the light tones of the wall to the right of the dogs head, the later retouchings are dark in tone and are mainly strengthenings around the figure of the dog, particularly around is front legs, and some scattered throughtout the dogs coat, and in his eyes. Otherwise in good condition.
Offered in a carved gilt wood frame in good condition.
