Description
- Henry Pickering
- Portrait of a lady, half-length, in a pink dress
- oil on canvas, in an English carved and gilt wood frame
Condition
The canvas has a recent and firm relining. The paint surface, which is very clean, has been flattened somewhat, although traces of good quality impasto remain in the whites. The colours are rich and vibrant. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals and even varnish and scattered retouchings to the hair, face, right sleeve and right background. The retouchings to the face are mainly infillings of craquelure. The retouchings are difficult to detect with the naked eye. Overall the work is in very good condition,
The work is offered in an English carved and gilt wood frame, with a few minor knocks.
