Catalogue Note

The View of Luxembourg derives from van der Meulen's original design of which numerous versions exist, the prime version being that in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no. 1507). The Arrival of Louis XIV to Maastricht derives from van der Meulen's original in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no. 1491), part of a series called The King's Conquests comprising fourteen large canvases intended for the Pavillon Royal in Marly.¹
