Provenance

Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 14 May 1986, lot (as Carlo Dolci).

Literature

F. Baldassari, Carlo Dolci, Florence 2015, p. 330, illustrated cat. no. A12 (as workshop of Carlo Dolci).

Condition

The painting is in good overall condition. The canvas has a firm old relining and has been quite recently cleaned and restored. Ultraviolet light reveals only scattered retouchings, mostly minor in nature, to the hairline, right sleeve and hand. The varnish is clear and even and the painting will not require further attention. Offered in a Florentine Baroque style carved and gilt frame in good condition.
