Description

  • Dutch School, 17th Century
  • Still life of apples and pears in a pewter dish
  • oil on panel, possibly reduced

Condition

The paint surface is clean, the varnish is clear and even and the painting is in overall fair condition. The panel has two old, repaired splits; one runs the width of the panel across the centre, the other runs about half-way across from the left-hand side, 6 cm. from the top. There is a repaired hairline surface crack which runs from the left-hand side, about half-way across the paint surface. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals sensitive restoration to these three horizontal lines, as well as some minor retouching in the lower left- and right-hand corners. There is strengthening to much of the background at the top of the panel, and around the plate, lower right. Offered in a dark wood frame.
