Condition

The panel, composed of two horizontal planks, is cradled. The paint surface is secure and stable. The surface is clean and the colours, particularly the golden glow in the sky, are vibrant. Good quality impasto is to be found throughout the foliage and vegetation. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals sensitive retouchings to the upper edge of the work and along the join of the plank, which runs from just above the ship at right, through the chimney at the left. Further, scattered retouching can be seen in the sky. The foreground is largely free of retouchings, expect small, scattered retouchings visible in the thatched roof at left and in the cattle. The retouchings are not immediately discernible with the naked eye. Overall the work is in very good condition. The work is offered in a gilt molded frame with a few minor knocks and losses.
